The situation on the front has sharply escalated in three areas, but National Guard troops continue to hold their positions and carry out assault operations.
This was stated by National Guard Commander Oleksandr Pivnenko, according to the national telethon broadcast.
Regarding the escalation on the front, Pivnenko said it concerns the Kupiansk, Pokrovsk, and Lyman directions.
"We are now in an intense phase, Kupiansk, Pokrovsk, and Lyman directions. But I’ll say this about the National Guard servicemen: we’re holding our positions and carrying out assault operations," Pivnenko stated.
According to him, special forces units are currently operating in the Pokrovsk and Kupiansk areas, achieving notable successes in the latter.
He added that Ukrainian troops have stabilized the situation near Myrnohrad and pushed back the Russian forces, who have now switched to defensive positions.
Pivnenko emphasized that the war has no time limits; while operational timelines exist, they don’t always match the realities on the ground. The same, he noted, applies to the Russian side.
The National Guard commander also pointed out that the Russians had planned to capture Pokrovsk by this time and advance toward Kramatorsk and Sloviansk, but failed thanks to the actions of Ukrainian forces.
As reported by the General Staff, on October 25 alone, there were 158 combat clashes on the front, more than a third of them in the Pokrovsk direction.
In addition, the Russians carried out 11 attacks on Ukrainian Defense Forces in the Lyman direction and 7 engagements near Kupiansk.
Earlier, Russian forces were reported to be shifting to a new battlefield tactic. More on how Ukraine’s Armed Forces are countering it can be read in RBC-Ukraine’s feature "Russian autumn offensive: How Ukrainian forces respond to enemy's new tactics."
