Breakthrough in Hamas talks as US president declares 'peace is near'

The first stage of negotiations on a settlement in the Gaza Strip is expected to be completed next week, according to a post on Truth Social.
The head of state noted that very positive talks with Hamas took place over the weekend.
He also reported successful discussions with Arab, Muslim, and other countries around the world regarding the release of hostages, the end of the war in the Gaza Strip, and "finally have long sought peace in the Middle East."
According to the president, "these talks have been very successful, and proceeding rapidly."
"The technical teams will again meet on Monday, in Egypt, to work through and clarify the final details. I am told that the first phase should be completed this week, and I am asking everyone to MOVE FAST," Trump said.
Peace plan for Gaza Strip
In September, the Israeli army launched a large-scale offensive on the city of Gaza, the last part of the enclave remaining under the control of Hamas militants.
At the end of the month, Donald Trump presented his plan to end the conflict in the Gaza Strip. The 20-point plan calls for a phased withdrawal of Israeli forces, the release of hostages held by Hamas, and the start of a new stage of negotiations between the parties.
On October 4, the Israel Defense Forces halted their offensive on Gaza at Trump’s request.
According to Trump, Israel agreed to an initial line for the separation of forces in the Gaza Strip.
He also emphasized that if Hamas refuses to participate in the talks, it will be "complete obliteration."
