Shahed drones launch massive attack on Cherkasy region, critical infrastructure hit

At night on September 17, Ukraine came under a massive attack by Russian drones. Reports indicate the first strikes, according to the head of the Cherkasy Regional Military Administration, Ihor Taburets.

The Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine had earlier warned about hostile UAVs, while local authorities later confirmed damage to critical infrastructure.
"Tonight, Russia launched attack UAVs at the Cherkasy region. There are consequences for critical infrastructure," wrote the head of the Cherkasy Regional Military Administration, Ihor Taburets.
According to preliminary reports, the main target was the city of Smila in the Cherkasy region. Monitoring groups noted that explosions began around 1 AM Kyiv time. Residents reported hearing at least six loud blasts.
The Ukrainian Air Force had earlier warned that enemy drones were initially heading toward Chyhyryn and Kamianka, but monitoring communities later reported their approach to Smila.
On the night of September 17, air raid alerts were declared in Kyiv and several other regions due to the threat of ballistic missiles.
Last week, two dozen Russian drones violated Polish airspace, with air defense and aviation managing to down only four. The incident reignited discussions on the possibility of establishing a no-fly zone over Ukraine.
