Rheinmetall to construct powder plant in Romania

Romania and German group Rheinmetall will build a gunpowder plant for ammunition production in the city of Victoria, in the central part of the country, according to the Ministry of Economy of Romania.
It was reported that the framework agreement on the construction of the gunpowder plant was signed in Berlin on Wednesday by Romania’s economy minister Radu Miruța and Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger.
"Today’s ceremony took place after several weeks of intensive discussions and negotiations, serious work, with respect for our partners but with firmness in defending Romania’s interests," Romania’s Ministry of Economy stated.
Construction of the plant, set to begin in 2026 and last three years, is expected to cost €535 million. The facility will also create 700 new jobs and will supply gunpowder both to Romania and to other countries.
