The United States of America needs time to realize that it is impossible to force Russia into peace without coercive tools, Presidential Office advisor Mykhailo Podolyak stated this in a comment to RBC-Ukraine's YouTube channel.

As Podolyak recalled, US President Donald Trump recently admitted that Russia uses negotiations as a way to buy time. This marks a shift in perspective, as members of his team had previously insisted that Moscow was supposedly seeking a swift end to the war.

He added that Russia’s delay tactics are an attempt to wage war while avoiding openly antagonizing the US. The enemy simulates readiness for negotiations while continuing the war in its usual manner. Moreover, over the past 1.5 months, Russia has significantly intensified its attacks on Ukraine.

"Look, now there is an understanding that they are buying time, and there will be an understanding that they are violating various agreements, as this is quite easy to document today. The United States has many tools to record these violations... I believe that once a critical mass of these violations is reached, the US will have to take certain actions," Podolyak noted.

The presidential office advisor emphasized that Washington needs time to realize the inevitability of more decisive steps, as the "carrot" approach will yield no results.

Talks in Saudi Arabia and Washington's plan for the war in Ukraine

Recently, meetings were held in Saudi Arabia between delegations from the United States and Ukraine. A separate meeting also took place between Washington and Moscow.

The purpose of the negotiations was to discuss the details of a possible partial ceasefire, specifically focusing on halting attacks on energy infrastructure and ensuring safe navigation in the Black Sea.

Nevertheless, Russia continues to launch missile and Shahed drone attacks on Ukraine every night. Commenting on the strikes, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Moscow has no intention of pursuing a genuine peace.
