Will Armed Forces of Ukraine hold Kursk region until end of year: Analyst’s forecast
Ukrainian forces will be able to keep the Kursk region under their control until the end of the year. During this time, the Russian forces are likely to make some advances, but they will definitely not be able to regain all the territories, states military-political observer of the Information Resistance group, Oleksandr Kovalenko, in a comment to RBC-Ukraine's YouTube channel.
"I don’t think it’s inevitable. When you talk about Kurakhove, our garrison will inevitably withdraw there, but the timing is still uncertain. In the Kursk region, the situation is completely different," Kovalenko said.
In his view, the Ukrainian Armed Forces could "maintain a comfort zone" in the Kursk region until New Year’s.
"I do not doubt that in Sudzha, they will be celebrating the New Year with greetings from someone addressing them from Kyiv. I'm quite confident that part of the Kursk region will remain under our control. The question is the area of this territory, as the Russians will make some advances, but by the end of the year, they won’t be able to reclaim the entire Kursk region," the expert believes.
Fighting in the Kursk region
In August, the Armed Forces of Ukraine launched an operation in the Kursk region, securing control over more than a hundred settlements (over 1,000 square kilometers). Currently, fighting continues there as Russian forces attempt to reclaim their territory.
According to the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi, the task for Ukrainian fighters in the Kursk region is to eliminate the enemy on its own territory.
He noted that during nearly three months of fighting in the Kursk region, Russia has lost over 20,000 servicemen. Additionally, 1,101 units of Russian military equipment and weaponry have been destroyed.
