Ukrainian expert explains Trump's sudden change on Russia

The United States is steering clear of direct contact with the Kremlin. President Donald Trump, despite Moscow's expectations, is no longer showing a willingness to engage in dialogue, stated Ukrainian political strategist Taras Zahorodnii in a commentary to RBC-Ukraine's YouTube channel.
Speaking about the possibility that the United States may strike Iran, the expert pointed out that all this knocks the trump cards out of Russia's hands.
"You see how Trump is already speaking to Russia? It's important to look not at the words, but at the actions," he said.
He also pointed out that US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff hasn't visited Moscow for a long time. This, according to the expert, indicates that US representatives have nothing to talk about with the Kremlin.
"Recently, the Russians even complained that the Americans declined to meet with them over minor issues like diplomatic missions, and everything that the Russians like to do, to drag them into conversations to resolve some other issues. It doesn't work," he added.
Zahorodnii also noted that Trump is facing internal pressure from Republicans.
"For his voter base, he doesn't look like a strong player right now. That's crucial for him," the political strategist said.
The expert said he witnessed how the head of the Pentagon was harshly criticized in Congress, not only by Democrats, but also by Republicans.
"Time is working in Ukraine's favor. The US has no choice but to show strength," he concluded.
In a commentary to RBC-Ukraine, Zahorodnii also said whether the United States would enter the war with Iran on the side of Israel.
Trump shifts rhetoric on Putin
As reported earlier, US President Donald Trump advised Russian leader Vladimir Putin to end the war in Ukraine before offering to mediate in the Middle East conflict.
This marks a notable shift in tone - Trump had previously supported the idea of Putin playing a mediating role in the Israel-Iran conflict.
Meanwhile, political analyst Volodymyr Fesenko told RBC-Ukraine that Putin is caught in a bind, attempting to maintain a balance between the US and Iran.
