Autonomous drones and their seamless integration into combat operations could give the Ukrainian Armed Forces a decisive battlefield advantage in the coming years, said Brigadier General Andrii Lebedenko, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, in response to a question from an RBC-Ukraine journalist.

"I believe the biggest gain in combat effectiveness will come from integrating drones on the battlefield, as they become more autonomous and can carry out missions while coordinating with one another and with other systems. We are already moving in that direction," Lebedenko said.

He added that, at the tactical level, it’s about the autonomy of each drone and its ability to integrate into such systems.

"In other words, we're moving toward greater autonomy, reducing the human role in operational processes, and accelerating the operations they can perform within systems," the Deputy Commander-in-Chief said.

According to Lebedenko, scaling up autonomous situational awareness is also essential. He stressed that systems must be capable of processing all available information.

"This is critically important because if I cannot detect a target, I cannot engage it effectively. I see enormous advantages in autonomy and in integration with artificial intelligence," Lebedenko concluded.

Earlier, it was announced that a US manufacturer will begin producing Magura sea drones, which were developed and tested during the war in Ukraine.

In addition, Ukraine's Liutyi strike drone was transformed into a missile carrier. The upgraded system was unveiled for the first time at an international defense exhibition in England.
