Russian strike on Kherson administration could accelerate US sanctions – Ukrainian expert

For the United States, Russia's strike on the Kherson regional administration building is yet another argument for imposing new sanctions against Russia. After all, the Russian army continues to strike exclusively at civilian targets, stated military analyst Mykhailo Samus, director of the New Geopolitics Research Network, in a comment to RBC-Ukraine's YouTube channel.
According to him, Russia's attack on the Kherson Regional State Administration cannot be seen as an appropriate response to Ukraine's drone strikes on Russian airbases.
"That was a civilian building, and it was empty. It is obvious that no one has been there for a long time, because Kherson is constantly under fire. Of course, the administrative building of the regional and city authorities is constantly under threat, so no one worked there; it was empty, and the Russians destroyed it for some reason," Samus said.
He noted that if this strike was a demonstration that Russia can destroy civilian targets, then everyone already knows that. According to the expert, Russia cannot defeat Ukraine militarily, so it is resorting to terrorist attacks on Ukrainian targets.
"If this is a response to strikes on airfields, then it is quite inadequate. Moreover, Ukraine can now use this strike to show that we are striking airfields. No civilians or even military personnel have been harmed. Only aircraft have been damaged. Russia is striking exclusively at civilian targets. They are threatening to kill civilians if we do not agree, for example, to certain conditions set by terrorists," Samus added.
The expert noted that this is Russia's terrorist practice — to sow fear, chaos, and panic to weaken Ukraine's ability to resist.
"For Americans, the strike on the Kherson Regional State Administration is another argument for imposing sanctions. Putin is inadequate, he cannot stop, he follows his own logic, believing he can win, and that's why he needs to be hit hard," he stressed.
