Russia may resume strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure, expert says
Russia has not abandoned its plans to plunge Ukraine into darkness this winter. It is preparing for large-scale attacks on the energy sector, says Oleksandr Musiienko, Head of the Center of Military Law Researches, to the RBC-Ukraine YouTube channel.
“The question is that we are on the verge of the fact that Russia can carry out large-scale strikes on the energy sector. Well, they (Russians - ed.) are preparing. President of Ukraine (Volodymyr Zelenskyy - ed.), Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine (Andrii Sybiha - ed.) say that they are recording energy facilities, that they are preparing, and their plan to plunge Ukraine into darkness this winter is not off the table,” the expert explained.
According to Musiienko, Ukraine needs to understand whether it receives enough assistance from its partners to counter Russia's intentions. At the same time, it may be necessary to stockpile missiles for future large-scale attacks on the energy sector.
“But we have always raised the issue, and Ukraine has always raised the issue, that we need more air defense to respond not to one challenge, but to respond to the challenge associated with the strikes by the GABs. I hope that such impudence, such aggressiveness, and such aggressive ambitions of the enemy will eventually be punished,” he added.
Russian massive shelling
Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Russia has been regularly conducting large-scale shelling of Ukraine's territory and energy sector. They launch dozens of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) almost every night. On the night of September 25, air defense managed to destroy 28 drones.
Mykhailo Podolyak, advisor to the head of the Presidential Office, explained how to prevent Russia from shelling nuclear power plants.
