Russia changes strike tactics: Expert explains targeted attacks on Ukraine

The Russian army has previously used the tactic of large-scale precision strikes across Ukraine. Their goal is to overload Ukrainian air defense systems, said military expert Pavlo Narozhnyy in a commentary to RBC-Ukraine.
"This tactic is not new. They have already used a similar approach, targeting a regional center or another city with both cruise missiles and Shahed drones. This way, they essentially overload air defense systems. That is, air defense has either missiles, ammunition, or shells for Gepard and so on, and they are not unlimited," Narozhnyy explained.
According to him, in this way, the Russian forces try to break through the defences of Ukrainian skies.
"A large number of drones are launched, they are shot down, the systems are overloaded, allowing some drones to get through. Unfortunately, there is nothing new here. Yes, this is a change in tactics, but how long it will be effective and how we will counter it remains an open question," he emphasized.
Massive attacks on Ukraine
Since the start of the full-scale invasion, Russian forces have been striking Ukrainian territory almost every night. Recently, Russia has intensified large-scale targeted drone attacks. They usually target several cities, most recently Kharkiv, Odesa, and Dnipro.
On March 29, between 8:45 p.m. and 9:05 p.m., Russian forces carried out a massive drone strike on Kharkiv. In the Shevchenkivskyi district, law enforcement recorded five impacts, while in the Kholodnohirskyi district, the enemy targeted a residential area.
A day earlier, on March 28, Russian forces launched a large-scale drone attack on Dnipro, destroying a well-known hotel and restaurant complex in the city.
