US President Donald Trump's statement about the low approval rating of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is a broadcast of Russian narratives. The Russian delegation could have made such a statement during a meeting in Saudi Arabia, said Mykhailo Podolyak, an advisor to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, in a commentary to the RBC-Ukraine YouTube channel.

“It (Trump's statement about Zelenskyy's rating - ed.) is not something that plays into the hands of the Kremlin, I assess this statement as simply a broadcast of narratives that the Russian delegation probably spoke in Riyadh,” Podolyak said.

According to him, all the statements made by top US officials, including Trump, are what Russia says to justify its aggression and the breakdown of the international legal system.

“That is, 4% is an argument used by Russia. Like, “We can't talk, because they are illegitimate there, because there were coups,” the advisor to the head of the Office of the President clarified.

According to Podolyak, everything that happened in Riyadh looks like the United States is voluntarily giving up dominance to an outsider and is ready to be a silent partner, which he deemed irrational.

“Therefore, in response to our question about whether this is a game or a misunderstanding, I am more inclined to believe that Trump is playing a game to extract more from Russia than Russia expects to give for certain informational loyalty,” he added.

The advisor to the head of the Presidential Office suggested that the United States is trying to gain full control over energy markets, and fields, including Arctic ones, as well as the Russian nuclear industry.

Trump's scandalous statement

Yesterday, on February 18, in the evening after the American delegation met with the Russian delegation in Riyadh, US President Donald Trump said that support for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy among Ukrainians was allegedly 4%.

These figures are in stark contrast to the results of opinion polls. In particular, according to today's poll of Kyiv International Institute of Sociology, as of the first half of February, trust in Zelenskyy among Ukrainians was 57%.

Indicators of trust in the head of the Ukrainian state have even improved over the past two months.
