Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán made a statement about a "Christmas ceasefire" between Russia and Ukraine. However, in reality, he is indifferent to both Ukraine and Russia, states Pavlo Lakiichuk, head of security programs at the Strategia XXI Globalistics Center, in a comment to the RBC-Ukraine YouTube channel.

What preceded

Recently, Orbán called Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to the Hungarian Prime Minister, he supposedly proposed a "Christmas ceasefire" between Russia and Ukraine.

"At the end of Hungary's presidency in the EU, we made new efforts for peace. We made a proposal for a Christmas ceasefire and a large prisoner exchange. It is sad that President Zelenskyy clearly rejected this today and excluded it. We did what we could!" Orbán wrote on Facebook.

At the same time, Ukraine's presidential advisor on communications, Dmytro Lytvyn, stated that Russia used Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's statement about a "Christmas ceasefire" to prepare for another missile strike on Ukraine's energy infrastructure.

What Lakiichuk says

According to the expert, the Hungarian Prime Minister "plays his own game."

"He gets the maximum from NATO and the EU through his specific position. He's not just earning bonuses from this, he's making money. He doesn't care about Ukraine, and in the end, not even about Russia. But he does care about America," Lakiichuk believes.

According to him, through his statements, Orbán may be trying to influence the United States, but Ukraine should not pay attention to them.
