On one of the areas in the Kursk region, the Russian forces found themselves encircled. However, it is still too early to draw conclusions, reports Roman Pohorilyi, co-founder and analyst of the Deep State platform, in a comment to the RBC-Ukraine YouTube channel.

According to Pohorilyi, the Defense Forces continue to operate in the Kursk region, where active combat is currently ongoing. Meanwhile, the Russian forces are attempting to counterattack on the western flanks of the area where our troops are stationed.

In particular, there have been unfavorable moments where the enemy managed to regain control over certain settlements. However, the situation is dynamic, with control of the area frequently changing hands.

"And after the latest update, everyone could even see a very interesting gray zone in the encirclement around the Kursk region. That's the situation. In other words, the Russians are encircled. They are trying to break through certain routes to provide reinforcements. Our troops are engaged in battles with them. So, the situation there is very interesting. But, again, it is difficult and premature to draw any conclusions," he added.

At the same time, the Deep State analyst noted that he does not know the number of Russian forces encircled but expressed hope that the enemy will not manage to break out.

Fighting in the Kursk region

The operation in the Kursk region has been ongoing for more than a month. As of August 27, it was known that the Defense Forces controlled:

  • 1,300 square kilometers;
  • about 100 settlements.

According to RBC-Ukraine sources, President Vladimir Putin allegedly instructed the military-political leadership to liberate the Kursk region by October 1.

On September 12, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russia had launched a counteroffensive in the Kursk region, but everything is proceeding according to Ukraine's plan.
