Could Russian attack imitations lead to daily power outages? Expert's opinion
Daily preventive power outages in Ukraine due to Russian aviation sorties are unlikely. It is unlikely that the Russian army will be able to organize simulated attacks that often, said Oleksandr Kharchenko, Director of the Energy Research Center, in a comment to the RBC-Ukraine's YouTube channel.
The expert commented on the possibility of daily power outages due to enemy missile attack simulations.
According to him, it is better to prepare and take necessary measures before enemy attacks than to face serious consequences for the energy system afterward.
"Honestly, I’m not sure they’ll be able to frequently simulate such mass sorties. Simply because any equipment, not just energy equipment, wears out. And each sortie is also a strain on the old bombers," Kharchenko clarified.
He added that any equipment ages and functions worse under strain. Therefore, the expert expressed hope that organizing such rehearsals often is not so easy.
Power outages
On the morning of November 11, emergency power outages were implemented in several regions of Ukraine.
These measures were related to Russia raising its strategic aviation, which was heading toward launch sites.
However, the Russian forces did not carry out a mass strike on Ukraine. During the night, they only launched drones.
