Armed Forces of Ukraine outline main objectives of Russian troops in Kupiansk direction
In the Kupiansk direction, Russian troops aim to reach the left bank of the Oskil River and establish a foothold in the near future. Russia is also attempting to enhance its capabilities for an advance on Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi, states Yurii Fedorenko, commander of the Achilles battalion of attack unmanned aircraft complexes of the 92nd separate assault brigade named after Ataman Sirko, in a comment to the YouTube channel RBC-Ukraine.
"The most challenging section is Kupiansk. Here, the enemy has been tasked with, in the near future, reaching the left bank of the Oskil River, establishing a foothold, and enhancing capabilities for an advance on Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi," Fedorenko explained.
According to him, while in 2023 the enemy primarily attacked through wooded areas, and less frequently in open fields, now the Russian troops are moving in waves.
"We are currently observing the enemy moving in waves. They cross the open field from their position as close as possible to ours. One or two make it across, then the next wave follows. This continues until an assault group gathers, which then begins to apply pressure on our positions," the military official noted.
At the same time, Fedorenko added that thanks to the titanic efforts of the Defense Forces, they are close to stabilizing the situation in this direction.
Situation at the front
According to the General Staff, during the past day, October 9, there were 149 combat clashes along the front line. The enemy applied the most pressure in the Kurakhove direction. Additionally, Russian forces are actively assaulting in the Pokrovsk, Lyman, and Kupiansk directions.
According to a report from the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW), the occupying forces advanced in Vovchansk in the Kharkiv region, along the Kupiansk-Svatove-Kreminna line, in the area of Siversk, and in southern Toretsk.
Ukrainian forces made progress during a counterattack east of Pokrovsk, while Russian forces advanced southeast of Pokrovsk.
