Russian forces are planning to carry out an operation against Ukraine’s water supply systems in the coming months, said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in his evening address.

According to the President, he held a coordination meeting on the situation in regions that had come under Russian strikes. Particular attention was given to the Chernihiv region, where repair work on energy facilities continued throughout the day.

Zelenskyy instructed government officials and the Presidential Office team to work with the military on air defense issues, including the protection of western regions of Ukraine from drone attacks.

"We need to add more layers of protection — this is a clear task. We also know that the Russians are preparing an operation in the coming months against water supply systems. Every community must take a serious and fully responsible approach to protecting these facilities," the President said.

He added that he had discussed key priorities with Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, Naftogaz head Sergii Koretskyi, Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, and other Cabinet officials.

Russia plans strikes on water infrastructure

On March 2, President Zelenskyy had already warned that Russian forces were preparing strikes on three types of targets.

According to him, this involves a new wave of attacks on infrastructure, logistics, and water supply systems.

Earlier, reports also circulated online suggesting that Russia could target the Bortnychi aeration station, which handles all sewage in the capital.
