The President stressed that preparations for winter must begin now. Ukraine is making every effort to bring Russia to the negotiating table.
"And this is already the most difficult summer for Russia. Our long-range operations and mid-range strikes will continue. We will strengthen them," he said.
According to Zelenskyy, one of the key ways to strengthen the positions of both Ukraine and Europe is to secure a winter package of air defense missiles. If Ukraine has enough missiles to intercept incoming Russian attacks, Russia will have fewer reasons to drag out the war until winter.
"We have calculated that this package should include 100 Patriot missiles per month – 300 missiles for the winter. Please consider this," he emphasized.
Air defense missile shortage
One of Ukraine's biggest challenges remains the shortage of missiles for Patriot air defense systems, which are capable of intercepting ballistic missiles.
Against this backdrop, Russia is increasingly using ballistic missiles in its mass attacks. During several recent strikes, Ukrainian air defense failed to intercept a single ballistic missile.
During the latest attack on Kyiv, Russian forces used S-400 air defense systems, which are extremely inaccurate and highly dangerous to civilians.
