President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting in Kyiv on January 16 with a delegation from the United Nations (UN). The delegation was led by Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher, along with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi, according to the official website of the President of Ukraine.

The President of Ukraine expressed gratitude to the United Nations (UN) during the meeting for its significant support to Ukrainians, particularly in assisting refugees who have been forced to flee their homeland due to Russian aggression.

Zelenskyy noted that the UN delegation, during its visit to Ukraine, had visited the southern regions of the country, as well as the Dnipro, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions, including the city of Kupiansk.

"This is very important, and I thank you. You saw the people there and understand what war means and what its consequences are," said the Ukrainian president.

Zelenskyy emphasized that the war waged by Russia against Ukraine has caused one of the largest humanitarian crises of our time. He added that international organizations must pressure the aggressor country to establish a just and lasting peace.

The president also highlighted the importance of the UN Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan for 2025, as well as the Regional Response Plan of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees. These plans, among other things, foresee the consolidation of nearly 3.3 billion dollars to support Ukrainians this year.

The Office of the President added that Zelenskyy also discussed with the UN delegation the possibility of further utilizing Ukraine's experience in providing humanitarian assistance to affected populations in other countries around the world.

The President shared details about the recently launched Ukrainian humanitarian initiative Food from Ukraine, which focuses on supplying essential food products to Syria. He also invited the UN and its member states to join this program.

"Tom Fletcher and Filippo Grandi reaffirmed their commitment to continuing support for Ukrainians affected by Russia’s aggression," the President's Office reported.

On January 16, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced that the UN's Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan for Ukraine in 2025 is set to secure $2.6 billion to assist Ukrainians in 2025. Currently, various forms of assistance from the UN are reaching 8.5 million Ukrainians.

Last year, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees provided 1.04 billion UAH to supply Ukrainians with coal and firewood during the heating season. The Ministry of Social Policy mentioned that these funds reached 47,000 households.
