President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky had a phone conversation with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. They discussed the recent Scholz's call made to Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to Zelenskyy.

During the conversation, Zelenskyy thanked Scholz for his leadership in supporting Ukraine with air defense systems. He specifically praised Berlin's readiness to continue supporting Kyiv. The parties also discussed bilateral steps and actions of partners to strengthen Ukraine and Scholz's call to Putin.

"It is clear that only the strength of weapons and the strength of diplomacy together can force the perpetrator of the war to peace, and that peace is only possible through strength," he added.

Scholz's talks with Putin

On November 15, Scholz called the Kremlin leader for the first time in two years. He condemned Russia's actions in the war against Ukraine and urged Putin to withdraw troops. He also raised the issue of potential negotiations with Kyiv.

After the talks with the Russian leader, the chancellor said that Putin's position on the war remained unchanged. At the same time, he considered it necessary to hold this dialogue, particularly in the context of the upcoming G20 summit.
