Zelenskyy stresses need for greater dialogue with Trump’s team
There should be more contacts between representatives of Ukraine and the team of US President-elect Donald Trump. The dialogue should be strengthened even before his inauguration, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says in an interview with Kyodo News.
He also emphasizes the importance of preparing for cooperation with the new administration to maintain support for Ukraine in times of war.
“We will keep in touch with Trump and his team until he is in the White House, and there will be the full weight of his rights as the new US president. Then we can talk about some things in more detail,” the President says.
Zelenskyy emphasizes that contacts with the Trump team should be more intense. According to him, this will allow better preparation for 2024, when the White House administration will change.
“Today I believe that there should be more contacts between our teams. We need to carefully prepare for next year,” he explains.
The Ukrainian President expresses hope that the United States will continue to support Ukraine despite the political changes. He called it a strategic priority to preserve the partnership between the United States and Europe, which is important for Ukraine's stability.
“I want the United States policy not to change, I want the United States not to seek a compromise between the killer and the victim. This is very important,” Zelenskyy emphasizes.
The President adds that Ukraine seeks a just peace, which is possible only through a strong position.
In an interview with the Japanese news agency Kyodo News, Zelenskyy says that Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine is currently at a difficult stage.
Earlier, the President of Ukraine named clear conditions for the US-mediated talks between Ukraine and Russia to take place.
