Shahed-type attack drones have become more dangerous than ballistic missiles. However, Ukraine is ramping up the production of more advanced interceptor drones, according to President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
"Shaheds have, in some cases, become more dangerous than ballistic missiles. We can shoot down a ballistic missile — at least in places where we have a Patriot system. But to bring down such a large number of Shaheds flying at such altitudes, we have to use everything," Zelenskyy said.
According to him, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are using interceptors, F-16s, and helicopters. However, much depends on the weather.
"In the frost, we’ll see how we can use helicopters. The interceptors are also different — some are already at a high level, with self-guidance and so on. We’re moving in that direction. Still, in November, we’ll reach 500–800 interceptors per day," the head of state added.
He emphasized that Ukraine needs to train operators. Many mobile fire groups are positioned at various facilities, but there is now a growing need for operators who can work with interceptors while simultaneously responding to Russian attacks with long-range weapons.
Earlier, Zelenskyy stated that Russian forces regularly attack Ukraine with ballistic missiles. Since the beginning of this year alone, Russia has launched about 770 ballistic missiles and more than 50 Kinzhal missiles.
According to the president, it is because of these massive ballistic attacks that particular attention is being paid to Patriot systems — to ensure Ukrainian cities can be protected from this horror.
