Zelenskyy says Russia aimed for maximum casualties and destruction in Kyiv attack

The Russians deliberately tried to inflict as much harm as possible on people during the nighttime attack on Kyiv, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
In Kyiv and the region, as well as in a number of other regions, efforts to deal with the aftermath of the strike have been ongoing since the night. According to the president, the attack was of a combined nature:
- Ballistic missiles;
- Cruise missiles;
- Anti-ship missiles;
- Jet-powered Shaheds.
Significant damage to residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure was recorded in the capital.
"It was a complex attack that the Russians tried to plan to cause as much harm to life as possible – ballistic missiles, cruise and anti-ship missiles, and jet-powered Shaheds," the president said.
As of now, ten people are known to have been injured. All those who need medical assistance are receiving it.
Rescuers from the State Emergency Service managed to save thirteen people. Two people were killed.
In the Kyiv region, the occupiers struck critical infrastructure facilities. In the Odesa region, they hit an ordinary market.
In Kharkiv, two people were injured, and an apartment building was damaged. In the morning, a Kyiv-Sumy train locomotive was attacked at a railway station in the Sumy region, but there were no casualties. The evacuation of people is ongoing. Zaporizhzhia and the Dnipropetrovsk region were also attacked.
"I thank all our partners who make support for Ukraine’s air defense a priority. This directly means saving lives," the president noted.
The aftermath of the nighttime strike was recorded in seven Kyiv districts at once — at least 14 high-rise buildings, a school, a clinic, a supermarket and a gas station were damaged.
The Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office opened criminal proceedings on the grounds of a war crime.
Meanwhile, a day earlier, drones destroyed seven trucks in the Boryspil area and hit the same logistics complex twice. On September 1, Kyiv experienced an even larger-scale attack.
