Ukrainian officials participating in negotiations with Russia will arrive in Istanbul today, May 15, said Dmytro Lytvyn, the Ukrainian President's communications advisor.

"Ukrainian representatives plan to be in Istanbul later this evening," Lytvyn said briefly.

Ukraine-Russia negotiations

Ukraine and Russia may hold their first talks in three years either today or tomorrow. They are expected to discuss the possibility of a 30-day ceasefire.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that a ceasefire is Ukraine's primary goal. Only then can other issues related to ending the war be discussed.

The head of state proposed meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin in Istanbul. However, Russia has sent only lower-level officials to the negotiations with Ukraine.

Still, according to Zelenskyy, Ukraine's delegation will be led by Ukraine's Minister of Defense Rustem Umerov.

More details about the possible talks can be found in the RBC-Ukraine article.
