Zelenskyy's Office responds to Putin's words about creating 'sanitary zone' in Ukraine
The statement by the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin about plans to create a "sanitary zone" in Ukraine indicates that the war will only escalate, according to Mykhailo Podolyak, an Advisor to the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, in a comment to The Guardian.
According to him, Putin's statement that he wants to create a "sanitary zone" in Ukraine is a clear declaration that the war will only intensify.
"This is ... a direct manifest statement that the war will only escalate," he said.
What Putin specifically said
Vladimir Putin stated that during his new presidential term, he would address the task of waging war against Ukraine and strengthening the army. Additionally, he announced plans to create a "sanitary zone" in Ukraine.
He stated that they were compelled, quite literally, to defend the interests of their citizens with weapons in hand.
When asked whether he considers it necessary to capture the Kharkiv region of Ukraine, Putin replied that if attacks continue, Russia will create a "buffer zone" from most of the Ukrainian territory to protect Russian territory.
Not the first statement by Putin on a similar topic
In June of last year, Putin already mentioned that Ukraine still has the ability to shell the Russian Federation from its territory.
To address this "problem," the dictator proposes to increase the effectiveness of counter-battery warfare, but, according to him, this does not mean that there will be no "incoming rounds."
Additionally, the dictator stated that if the "incoming rounds" continue, Russia will have to consider the issue of creating a "sanitary zone" on the territory of Ukraine to prevent the Armed Forces from reaching Russian territory.
