The Ukrainian and Polish presidents discussed economic, historical, and security issues during their meeting on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told reporters.

"I believe we had an important meeting with the President of Poland. It was quite lengthy and constructive. We discussed priority issues. Naturally, security was among them, and we understand that we share the same enemy — Russia," the Ukrainian president said.

Zelenskyy and Karol Nawrocki also discussed economic cooperation. The president noted that a successful conference on Ukraine's recovery and reconstruction had recently taken place in Gdańsk, drawing interest from Polish businesses. He stressed that Ukraine remains open to cooperation with its Polish partners.

"We also discussed historical issues. In my view, we need to be constructive and tactful so as not to undermine the important, friendly, and neighborly relations between Ukraine and Poland," Zelenskyy said.

On July 8, Nawrocki stated that despite historical disagreements, Poland and Ukraine must maintain dialogue because they face a common threat from Russia.

At the same time, the Polish president emphasized that his position on historical issues remains unchanged. According to him, Poland and Europe cannot accept the glorification of UPA (the Ukrainian Insurgent Army) fighters.

Nawrocki also said that during his meeting with Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the NATO summit, the two sides failed to reach common ground on historical issues.
