Finnish President Alexander Stubb and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre discussed de-escalation measures concerning Ukraine’s energy sector and infrastructure with Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to a statement by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

"Alex and Jonas made it clear to the Russian leader that real de-escalatory steps are needed regarding our energy and infrastructure," the head of state stressed.

The president added that he had discussed with the Europeans preparations for a trilateral meeting scheduled for November, involving teams from Ukraine, the US, and the aggressor state.

"Finland and Norway, as countries that border Russia, have a particular interest in sound and reliable security arrangements," Zelenskyy emphasized.

According to him, various formats for cooperation between Ukraine and its European partners were also discussed. These could be useful "for further supporting diplomacy, defense, and shared security."

On October 27, Stubb and Støre held a phone call with the Russian president. The parties discussed the war against Ukraine and possible ways to end it.

Before the call, the leaders of Finland and Norway consulted with Kyiv to convey Ukraine’s position ahead of the peace talks in Abu Dhabi.

The Kremlin later revealed details of the phone conversation between the Russian president and the leaders of Norway and Finland.
