Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded to Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico's proposal for a meeting. He agrees to meet, but only in Kyiv and this week, according to the head of the state on Twitter (X).

It is worth noting that today, Fico posted a message on his Facebook and invited Zelenskyy to meet near the state border on Slovak territory.

"Ok. Come to Kyiv on Friday," the president replied.

What Fico proposed

The Slovak prime minister stated that he would like to discuss the cessation of Russian gas transit. He also noted that he has a "different opinion" on how the Russian-Ukrainian war may end.

"In all my foreign trips, I emphasize the need for an immediate cessation of hostilities, support existing peace plans, and propose that peace negotiations at any level also take place in Slovakia," Fico said.

He also stated that he would like to continue the dialogue with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal and invited Zelenskyy to meet on Slovak territory near the state border. According to him, the Ukrainian side could use the Kyiv-Kosice train for this purpose.

It should be noted that in recent days, there has been a verbal dispute between the leaders of Ukraine and Slovakia. In particular, Fico threatened strict measures if the Russian gas transit through Ukrainian territory is not resumed.

In response, President Zelenskyy stated that Fico miscalculated in his foreign and energy policy. He also called Fico's hopes for long-term cooperation with Moscow a mistake. Zelenskyy reminded that he offered Slovakia help to adapt to the absence of Russian gas transit, but the prime minister "arrogantly refused."
