Ukraine is preparing special measures to protect the skies in the frontline and border regions with Russia, where Russia is carrying out "safaris on civilians," according to the evening address of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The Head of State said that he held a meeting of the Staff of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief. The main topic of discussion was air defense — everything related to anti-aircraft defense and the drone component.
Zelenskyy noted that, in the context of air attacks, the greatest threats are in the frontline and border regions with Russia: Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, and Kherson regions.
"We are preparing special decisions that can strengthen our defense, specifically in these regions and inflict major losses on the occupier — primarily on those Russian units that are tormenting our people in Nikopol, Kherson, and other cities within their reach. They are essentially conducting a safari against civilians and training drone operators by killing Ukrainians on the streets and roads," the president emphasized.
According to him, these regions require more protection and more active operations by Ukrainian troops.
The Head of State clarified that the Unmanned Systems Forces will be deployed much more extensively and will also receive additional resources.
Russian attacks
Russian forces regularly terrorize civilians in Kherson and other frontline settlements, including by using FPV drones against them.
In June, for example, the enemy dropped explosives from a drone onto an ambulance, injuring medical personnel.
In August, the military warned drivers about high activity of Russian FPV drones along the Kherson–Mykolaiv highway, as they were targeting civilian vehicles.
Last week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the Command of the Unmanned Systems Forces has developed a program to protect frontline cities from Russian drones.
