For Ukraine in the war against the Russian Federation, people are the most important thing; territory is also important but comes second, Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated in an interview with blogger Max Klymenko.
"Russia is not winning. They didn't get any goals what they wanted from the very beginning. They wanted to occupy totaly Donbas. 100$ they didn't get it. And of course, they wanted to occupy the capital. They also didn't get it," Zelenskyy said.
According to him, Russia is now losing between 30,000 and 35,000 troops every month.
"People are number one. The land is the second question. But people—people are the most important," the president emphasized.
He also stressed that over the past one to two years, Ukraine’s Armed Forces have largely held the same positions, while losses continue to grow.
"Russians cannot break our defensive lines, and they try every day to do it. That is why this position on the battlefield does not give them victory. That is why they try to make chaos by missile on energy and civilian infrastructure," the Ukrainian president added.
Zelenskyy also noted that Ukraine is currently "number one" in security, as no other country in the world could, for example, destroy 500 Iranian drones in a single day.
Earlier, Zelenskyy said there are five reasons why Russia may feel stronger ahead of the next round of negotiations.
He also stressed that the aggressor country sees the active use of air defense missiles in the Middle East and the Gulf region, which may lead it to believe that Kyiv could face shortages.
In an interview with the BBC, the Ukrainian president said he has a "very bad feeling" about the next round of peace talks with Russia. His concern is linked to the fact that the United States has shifted its focus from Ukraine to the war in Iran.
