The free trade zone with the United States for Ukraine, mentioned by US President’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, would be very beneficial, especially in terms of investment, said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a conversation with journalists in Davos.

Zelenskyy noted that with such a free trade zone, businesses could be expected to come to Ukraine after the war ends.

"For Ukraine, this will be very important in the first years. I believe businesses will come. As I said, many business representatives told me this is important to them. So we are counting on this decision," he said in response to journalists’ questions.

Witkoff, speaking in Davos, noted that after the war, Ukraine could receive a tariff-free free trade zone with the United States, which would significantly support the country’s recovery.

Overall, Ukraine and the US were expected to sign a prosperity plan at the Davos forum — an $800 billion plan for Ukraine’s reconstruction, which had been agreed upon at the technical level.

However, according to Axios, citing an unnamed Ukrainian official, plans for the document to be signed by US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky were canceled.

A US representative, speaking anonymously, said that no signing date had been set and the document still required further work. Some media outlets reported that Washington initially wanted to consult with the Kremlin regarding this plan.
