Ukraine cannot currently focus on the deoccupation of its territories for two reasons: a shortage of personnel on the battlefield and a lack of weapons.
This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in an interview with BBC.
He said Ukraine will eventually regain its territories, describing it as a matter of time, but noted that this is currently impossible due to Russia’s numerical advantage in troops.
"To attempt this today would mean losing a huge number of people, potentially millions, because the Russian army is large, and we understand the cost of such steps. We would not have enough personnel and would risk losing them. And what is land without people? Honestly, nothing," Zelenskyy explained.
He also noted that Ukraine currently does not have sufficient weapons to rapidly liberate all occupied territories.
"That depends not only on us but on our partners. As of today, this is not available."
At the same time, Zelenskyy stressed that returning to Ukraine’s internationally recognized 1991 borders would undoubtedly represent a victory of justice for the country.
It was previously reported how much territory Russia has occupied in Ukraine since the start of the full-scale war.
Regarding peace talks, Zelenskyy said negotiations will take place again in Geneva in the near future and announced both the talks and a prisoner exchange.
