President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wants Germany to send more weapons to Ukraine. He addressed the German Chancellor with specific requests for military supplies, Politico reports.

Merz and Zelenskyy held a meeting to discuss the situation in Washington and the US plans regarding the war in Ukraine. During the meeting, Zelenskyy made "specific requests" for assistance to strengthen Ukraine's defensive capabilities.

After the summit, Merz stated that Berlin is considering proposals to enhance Ukraine's protection, including how German technology could help protect Ukraine’s energy and water infrastructure.

Details of Zelenskyy's exact requests have not been disclosed, and neither Zelenskyy nor the German Chancellor provided details in their official statements.

Germany’s support for Ukraine

On October 24, Germany allocated a new aid package of €60 million to Ukraine, aimed at restoring energy infrastructure damaged by Russian attacks.

On the same day, German Energy Minister Katharina Reiche arrived in Ukraine for a multi-day visit. She will hold a series of meetings focused on strengthening Ukraine’s energy independence.

Earlier in August, it was announced that Germany would provide Ukraine with €9 billion annually over the next several years for military aid and other needs.
