Zelenskyy holds talks with Italian PM: Topics discussed

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed a number of issues with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, including possible venues for negotiations with Russia, according to the president’s Telegram channel.
According to Zelenskyy, during his conversation with Meloni, the parties:

Discussed yesterday’s talks with US President Donald Trump and European leaders;

Coordinated their positions and agreed to stay in contact regarding the next steps;

Talked about possible venues for negotiations with Russia.
"A ceasefire is necessary to save lives. Honest diplomacy is needed. Ukraine is ready, and Russia’s genuine readiness to end the war must be ensured," the president stated.
Ukraine-Russia negotiations in Istanbul
On May 16, in Istanbul, Türkiye, the first direct talks between Russia and Ukraine in a long time took place. During these talks, the parties agreed on a prisoner exchange—1,000 for 1,000.
According to media reports, during the dialogue, the Russian delegation put forward demands concerning:

Ukraine’s "neutrality,"

Renunciation of reparations,

Rights of Russian speakers,

"Recognition" of the occupation of Ukrainian territories,

Withdrawal of the Ukrainian Armed Forces from several regions for an immediate ceasefire.
According to Zelenskyy, Kyiv is currently discussing with its partners the possibility of new negotiations with Russia. Three countries are being considered as potential venues.
