Ukraine expects at least 30,000 Russian occupying troops to be eliminated this month, according to a statement by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The president spoke about a briefing from Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Mykhailo Drapatyi and said that measures and resources had been identified to reinforce the Sloviansk and Kostiantynivka directions.

The president also thanked Ukrainian units that are destroying enemy forces and countering Russian assaults and infiltration attempts.

"I expect that this month, in August, there will be no fewer than 30,000 eliminated occupiers," Zelenskyy said.

He added that he had spoken today with Defense Minister Yevhen Khmara about Ukraine's need for drones and advanced technologies.

Army funding

"We discussed in detail, both with him and at the meeting of the Staff of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, the issue of funding for the military. We need to close the deficit as much as possible. The amount is significant: spending was much higher in the first half of the year, and the new challenge now is to find the necessary funding. Additional funding. We will be discussing this with our partners," the president said.

Zelenskyy said he expects the government and parliament to do the work necessary to secure the required funds. He stressed that "the technological capabilities of our army and our defense operations must continue to grow."

Russian military losses in the war against Ukraine are approaching 1.5 million troops. To replenish its ranks, the Kremlin has relied not only on prisoners but also on tens of thousands of foreign mercenaries.

Russia is also preparing for a new mobilization campaign. According to reports, the Russian dictator plans to announce it after parliamentary elections this autumn in order to rapidly recruit additional soldiers.
