Zelenskyy compares Trump to Reagan
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy congratulated Donald Trump on his victory in the US presidential elections. Furthermore, he compared Trump to his predecessor, the 40th US President Ronald Reagan.
"For us in Ukraine, and all of Europe, it was always critically important to hear the words of the 45th President of the United States about 'peace through strength.' And if this principle guides the policy of the 47th US President, both America and the entire world will certainly benefit from it," Zelenskyy emphasized.
He said that today is indeed a special day and highlighted that one news story is capturing the world’s attention.
"Ronald Reagan is frequently mentioned now, and it’s no coincidence – people seek confidence, freedom, and a normal life. For us, that means a life free from Russian aggression, with a strong America, a strong Ukraine, and strong allies. This year, we have already spoken with President Trump, both by phone in July and in person in September, and these were good discussions," Zelenskyy stressed.
Donald Trump is often compared to his predecessor, Ronald Reagan. The two indeed share certain characteristics and political approaches.
Firstly, both presidents entered politics after successful careers outside of public service. Reagan was a popular actor and worked in Hollywood, while Trump was a successful businessman and media personality. This background gave them the ability to attract audiences and build the image of a leader outside the system.
Moreover, both figures have survived assassination attempts. A bullet fired by mentally unstable John Hinckley ricocheted off a vehicle and lodged in Reagan’s lungs. Trump, however, has faced two assassination attempts this year.
Another similarity is that Trump, like Reagan, was re-elected to the presidency, albeit with a four-year gap.
Let us remind readers that RBC-Ukraine previously reported on how Trump achieved a sweeping victory in the elections.
