Russians want to significantly expand the buffer zone in northern Ukraine, extending it to the border with Belarus as well, says Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, citing Ukrinform.
“The Russians want to create a buffer zone along the entire border – not only theirs, but also Belarus’s. That includes the Chernihiv and Sumy regions as well. There is nothing new here. As for Transnistria, honestly, I do not see a threat there today,” Zelenskyy said.
According to him, concentrations of Russian forces are currently being recorded in other directions — in the south, on the Zaporizhzhia axis.
“Their main objective remains unchanged: the Pokrovsk direction. It is an important city for them, and they have long tried to capture it. It is also important for us, as it is where our defensive line and positions are located,” the head of state emphasized.
Russians are preparing new buffer zones
Deputy Head of the Presidential Office, Brigadier General Pavlo Palisa, told RBC-Ukrainr recently that Russia plans to create a new buffer zone on the border with Ukraine, in the Vinnytsia region, from the side of the unrecognized Transnistria.
Russian troops are not abandoning their offensive and want to create a buffer zone in the Dnipropetrovsk region. Ukraine’s Defense Forces are consistently conducting active defense and inflicting significant fire damage on them.
In addition, Russians are trying to create a buffer zone in the Sumy and Kharkiv regions. However, they are unlikely to succeed, as this is currently not their priority on the front.
