Anatoliy Barhylevych became the new chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces. Serhii Shaptala held this position before him, says President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

"I appointed Major General Anatoliy Barhylevych as the new chief of the General Staff at the suggestion of Chief of Staff Oleksandr Syrskyi. He is an experienced person who understands the tasks of this war and Ukrainian goals," the head of state said.

According to Zelenskyy, today Syrskyi appointed the candidacies for his deputies. Deputy chiefs of the General Staff have also been determined.

"And I will sign the relevant decrees. All the guys are combative, professional, each one with a clear knowledge of the front and the real needs of Ukrainian soldiers," he added.

It should be noted that before this Barhylevych headed the Territorial Defense Forces.

Reshuffles in Ukrainian Armed Forces

Yesterday, Zelenskyy dismissed Valerii Zaluzhnyi from the position of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and replaced him with Oleksandr Syrskyi, who previously headed the Ground Forces.

Today, RBC-Ukraine has learned that Barhylevych is being considered for the post of Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine instead of Shaptala. In addition, First Deputy Minister of Defense Oleksandr Pavliuk can head the Ground Forces instead of Syrskyi.
