Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy may meet with US President Donald Trump on April 26. Both are in Rome, AFP reports.

"The two presidents could meet," said a senior official in a comment to AFP.

The Presidents of Ukraine and the US arrived in Rome for the farewell ceremony with Pope Francis. The day before, Trump stated that it was "possible" he would meet with Zelenskyy in Rome.

Ukrainian President, First Lady, and the Ukrainian delegation have already arrived in Italy. This was announced to journalists by the President's press secretary, Serhiy Nikiforov, on the morning of April 26.

Pope’s funeral

Today, April 26, a farewell ceremony for Pope Francis will take place at the Vatican. The Pontiff passed away on April 21 due to a stroke. Many world leaders have gathered in Rome for the funeral.

Earlier, media speculated that Zelenskyy and Trump might meet in Rome amid the complexities of the peace negotiation process regarding the war.

La Repubblica reported that Ukraine allegedly wanted to hold a summit in Italy when world leaders gather for the Pope’s funeral. The summit would have been in the "Quint" format, including the US, Italy, France, the UK, and possibly Germany.

According to the Italian newspaper, all countries supported this idea, including Italy.
