President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy reacted to the overnight strikes on Ukraine, stating that this is top-level cynicism. He also emphasized that Russia is asking for a ceasefire on May 9, yet continues to attack Ukraine every day, according to his statement on X.

During the night of May 4, Kyiv was subjected to a massive attack by Russian drones. Fires engulfed residential buildings and cars in the city's residential districts; rescuers worked through the night, providing assistance to the victims.

Among the injured are children and adults, all of whom received the necessary medical assistance. A fire broke out in Cherkasy, where a dormitory was burning.

Zelenskyy reported that on this very morning, strikes with guided aerial bombs continued in the Donetsk and Sumy regions.

Attacks also took place in the Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, and Kyiv regions. The enemy does not cease its aggression.

"The Russians are calling for a ceasefire on May 9 while striking Ukraine every single day. This is top-level cynicism: just this week alone, Russia has used over 1,180 attack drones, 1,360 guided aerial bombs, and 10 missiles of various types against Ukraine," the president stated.

He emphasized that Ukraine is ready for a genuine ceasefire, but it must be permanent, not limited to holiday dates.

"If there’s silence, it must be every day. If there’s a ceasefire – then not for their holidays, but for every day," Zelenskyy noted.

He also thanked international partners for their support and pressure on Russia, stressing the importance of continued assistance to Ukraine.

Nighttime attack on Ukraine

Explosions were heard throughout the city, and falling debris from downed drones sparked numerous fires in various districts of the capital. Firefighters worked to eliminate the consequences, significant damage was found in buildings.

Local authorities confirmed that children were among the injured. Vitali Klitschko, the mayor of Kyiv, reported that four residents sought medical help: three in the Sviatoshynskyi district and one in Obolonskyi. As of 3 a.m., rescuers reported seven injured, but by morning the number had risen to 11.

Russian drones also attacked the city of Cherkasy, where fires broke out.

The Russian army also launched a massive strike with guided aerial bombs on the frontline town of Orikhiv in the Zaporizhzhia region.
