Proper nutrition is the main guarantee of health, so you should limit the consumption of unhealthy foods. Among them, trans fats are particularly dangerous, as they have a negative impact on the heart and blood vessels, says Ukrainian nutritionist Kateryna Krupkina.
Why trans fats are harmful
According to the expert, if you overeat foods with sugar, your body will be fine. However, trans fats, unfortunately, are a bad story for the body in excess. They cause inflammation and are not excreted from the body.
Trans fats can be recognized by product labels: hydrogenated oil, partially hydrogenated, and partially modified.
"If you understand that this product should have a liquid state, but it is solid, and it simply says 'modified oil,' it is most likely hydrogenated fat," Krupkina added.
If you still love a certain product very much, you should consume it in very moderate quantities.
"Even if we eat tons of buckwheat, our body will not react well to it. Therefore, we balance within a healthy limit," the report says.
What popular foods contain trans fats
Trans fats are a type of unsaturated fat that can negatively affect health by increasing the risk of cardiovascular disease. They are often found in processed and refined foods.
Here are some foods that may contain trans fats:
- Fried foods - french fries, chips, fast food, which are prepared using hydrogenated oils
- Baked goods and confectionery - cakes, cookies, pizza, croissants, and other products made from margarine or partially hydrogenated oils
- Ready-to-eat snacks and snacks - popcorn, crackers, chips
- Dairy and meat products - some types of processed cheeses, sausages, and frankfurters that may contain small amounts of trans fats
- Frozen foods - ready-to-eat meals, such as frozen pizza or convenience foods
