Chinese leader Xi Jinping met with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre. During the meeting, Xi urged the creation of conditions for a political settlement of the war in Ukraine, according to Xinhua.

During the meeting, Xi and Støre discussed the issue of the war in Ukraine.

"Xi emphasized that China encourages and supports all efforts conducive to a peaceful resolution of the crisis, will continue to persuade and facilitate negotiations, and will play a constructive role in advancing the political settlement of the crisis in Ukraine," the report said.

Xi expressed hope that all parties will collaborate through dialogue to create favorable conditions for a political resolution of the war.

China’s position on the war in Ukraine

China claims neutrality in Russia’s war against Ukraine, supporting Ukraine’s sovereignty while deepening economic cooperation with Moscow. Although China officially does not supply weapons to Russia, its companies sell dual-use goods that could be used in the war.

For instance, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has urged China to stop supplying Russia with dual-use goods and hinted at the possibility of stronger sanctions.

Additionally, the United States and Australia have called on Beijing to influence Moscow to end the war in Ukraine.
