According to police, the suspect, Amritpal Singh Dhillon, was driving an SUV at high speed when he struck the 114-year-old runner, who had gone out for a post-lunch walk.

At the time of the accident, Singh was crossing the road when he was hit and sustained severe injuries. Locals took him to the hospital, where he later died.

The accident took place in the northern Indian state of Punjab, near the city of Jalandhar, close to Singh’s native village of Bias Pind.
