World's healthiest food revealed: Prepare to be amazed
Scientists have long considered leafy greens to be among the healthiest foods, including spinach, Swiss chard, and Chinese cabbage. They are rich in nutrients, but there is a product that surpasses them many times over.
A list of the healthiest foods in the world is reported by the journal Preventing Chronic Disease.
What is the healthiest food in the world?
First place in the list of the healthiest foods, compiled by Professor Jennifer Di Noia of William Paterson University, goes to watercress. In addition to it, 40 other products made it onto this list.
They are sorted by the presence of 17 nutrients, including fiber, potassium, protein, vitamins B, A, D, and calcium folate. The proportion of valuable ingredients was also compared to the number of calories. The higher the value, the more useful and valuable the product is in nutrition.
Watercress is the only product that manages to cover 100% of the daily nutritional needs per 100 calories consumed.
Chinese cabbage reaches this indicator at 91.99%, Swiss chard at 89.27%, and spinach at 86.43%.
Watercress combines a multitude of nutrients, each of which significantly contributes to our health. In addition to a significant amount of iron, calcium, and vitamin C, it also contains 14 other important vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and secondary plant substances.
Vitamins A and C protect against infections and strengthen the immune system, while calcium, potassium, and magnesium support bone and muscle growth, and vitamin K can prevent damage to brain cells.
Antioxidants also protect against DNA damage and thus can minimize the risk of various types of cancer.
