Republican Senator Lindsey Graham stated that the US Senate is preparing to soon grant more powers to President Donald Trump for tougher actions against the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, according to Graham’s X account.

The senator noted that he considers Donald Trump "and maybe the only person – who can end the war between Russia and Ukraine honorably and justly." However, according to Graham, it is necessary to change the approach to the Kremlin’s actions, given the aggressive policy of the Russian leadership.

"It is clear to me that given Putin’s behavior and refusal to be reasonable, the Senate will soon provide President Donald Trump with more tools in his toolbox, and they will not be carrots," he said.

The senator also noted that he appreciates Trump’s attempts to influence Putin through diplomatic means.

"I appreciate the fact that President Trump has gone the extra mile by engaging Putin in a positive way to try to get him to come to the table. I have always supported this approach, but to make peace, you have to have willing partners," Graham emphasized.

US sanctions against Russia

Previously, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham and Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal introduced a bill to impose tough sanctions against Russia for its refusal of a lasting peace with Ukraine.

RBC-Ukraine has already reported that the US Senate is ready to approve a bill on tough sanctions against Russia if the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin does not demonstrate a desire for peace.

The sanctions will take effect if Russia refuses to enter into good-faith negotiations for sustainable peace with Ukraine or attempts to undermine Ukrainian sovereignty after reaching a peace agreement, including through new military aggression. Additionally, the law imposes a 500% tariff on imports of goods from countries that continue to purchase Russian oil, gas, uranium, and other resources.

Republican US Senator Lindsey Graham also warned Russian citizens about the devastating consequences of the aggressive policy of dictator Vladimir Putin, who is unwilling to stop the war against Ukraine.
