Every smartphone user has dealt with a damaged charging cable at some point. In most cases, the problem is caused by improper storage.

The mistake most gadget users make
Inside every charging cable are extremely thin metal wires that can easily break from constant tension or sharp bends. That means the lifespan of your cable largely depends on your everyday habits.
The most common mistake is wrapping the cable tightly around the power adapter. This keeps the cable under constant stress.
Sharp bends near the connector or where the cable meets the charger are especially damaging. These are the spots where internal wires tend to fail first. Experts recommend storing the adapter and cable separately whenever possible.
Storing it the wrong way
Many people simply toss their charger into the bottom of a backpack or stuff it into a tight pocket. This often creates knots and severe kinks.
Untangling those knots puts even more strain on the cable's outer jacket. Over time, the plastic coating can crack, exposing the internal wires. A damaged cable can become a safety hazard because it increases the risk of a short circuit.
How to make your charging cable last longer
Tech experts recommend coiling the cable into a loose loop about 4 inches (10 cm) in diameter. Follow the cable's natural curve instead of forcing it into a tight shape.
To keep it neatly coiled, use reusable Velcro cable ties or soft silicone cable organizers. These help prevent unnecessary stress and extend the cable's lifespan.
