Many people have a bad habit of placing their phones under their pillows at night. They may not believe that it can harm their health, but there are reasons why it's advisable to keep it away from your bed, according to Itechua.

Radiation is not a myth

Gadgets emit electromagnetic fields in the radio frequency range. This is necessary for your device to communicate with stations.

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) does not rule out the possibility of danger to humans from this factor. Therefore, it's worth moving your phone away from your bed before sleep – onto a shelf or table. Even better, take it out of the bedroom entirely.

"The human brain is quite sensitive. Although humans haven't developed sensory organs for the electromagnetic field during evolution, the impact is still observed," says IARC expert Giacomo Berno.

Leaving a smartphone next to your head at night increases the time of negative effects by 33%. Scientists suggest that electromagnetic radiation from gadgets negatively affects the state of the brain and may contribute to the development of malignant tumors.

This is not a definitive conclusion, but it's better to err on the side of caution. Scientists' opinions on this matter differ, and research is still ongoing.

It's recommended to turn off Wi-Fi to minimize electromagnetic radiation. Alternatively, put the device in airplane mode – it won't receive or transmit radiofrequency waves. Place the phone at least a meter away from yourself when sleeping.
