White House reveals details about upcoming package of sanctions against Russia
The US is preparing a large package of sanctions against Russia, which will target its defense industry and reduce its export potential, states Jake Sullivan, the National Security Advisor to the President of the US.
"We are planning to roll out a package of sanctions at the end of this week, which will come, obviously, in the wake of the tragic death of Aleksey Navalny. That sanctions package will also come on the eve of the two-year anniversary of the Ukraine war," Sullivan said.
According to him, this will be a significant package of sanctions that covers a whole range of different elements of the Russian defense industry base and sources of income for the Russian economy, which together power the Russian military machine.
"I would point out that this is on top of a significant framework of sanctions that we have worked with our allies and partners to build over the course of the past two years," added the US national security advisor.
He also notes that the US and its allies are working diligently and carefully to continue to impose costs for what Russia has done with Navalny and Ukraine and for the threat it poses to international peace and security.
