White House explains statement on 245% tariffs against China

Only some Chinese goods, such as electric cars and syringes, are subject to a 245% duty. This is not a new, wide-ranging US tariff imposed on China, the White House says.
Only some Chinese goods, such as electric cars and syringes, are subject to a 245% duty. This is not a new, wide-ranging US tariff imposed on China, the White House said.
The White House has clarified that only certain goods, such as electric cars and syringes, from China are subject to a 245% tariff. They noted that this is not a new large-scale tariff imposed on China.
"China now faces up to a 245% tariff on imports to the United States as a result of its retaliatory actions," the White House said in a release.
The 145% duty will be added to tariffs on specific products already imposed against China.
The White House explained that US President Donald Trump initiated the introduction of tariffs on Chinese goods during his first term, and then US President Joe Biden increased some of these tariffs.
For example, Biden imposed a 100% tariff on electric vehicles. Combined with Trump's new 145 percent tariffs, the total amount is 245 percent.
US tariffs for China
US President Donald Trump first imposed additional duties on China in the amount of 20%, then raised them by another 34%. The American leader raised duties every time China announced retaliatory measures.
Last week, Trump raised duties on Chinese goods to 145%, announcing a 90-day pause on duties on dozens of other countries' goods.
After that, Beijing raised duties on American goods to 125%.
Today, the White House announced that as a result of retaliatory actions against the US tariffs, China now faces tariffs on imports to the US of up to 245%.
