White House confirms Trump and Zelenskyy to meet next week

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump are set to meet in Washington on Tuesday, July 28, according to a White House official who confirmed the meeting to Reuters.
At the same time, a Ukrainian source said Zelenskyy is interested in traveling to the United States, but his team is awaiting official confirmation of Trump's schedule from the White House.
According to the source, Ukrainian and US officials have discussed a proposal for a ceasefire in the air, which they plan to present to the Russian side as part of a new round of peace initiatives aimed at ending the war in Ukraine.
Reuters noted that Ukraine has previously proposed ceasefires to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, but those offers were rejected.
At the same time, some officials believe that pressure on the Russian economy from Ukrainian drone and missile strikes could soften Putin's position.
In recent days, Zelenskyy held talks with US special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner about prospects for resuming peace negotiations with Russia. Afterward, he said Ukrainian and US officials could meet in the United States within the next few days.
Zelenskyy-Trump meeting
As previously reported, media outlets said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is expected to visit the United States on Tuesday, July 28, to meet with US President Donald Trump in Washington. The meeting is expected to be a significant diplomatic event.
According to RFERL, in addition to meeting with Trump, Zelenskyy plans to attend the funeral of the late Senator Lindsey Graham at the Washington National Cathedral later that day.
Notably, the presidents of Ukraine and the United States have already met three times this year. Their first meeting took place in January on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos.
The second meeting was held during the G7 summit in Évian, France, on June 16. Afterward, Zelenskyy said his conversation with Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron "could change a lot."
Their third meeting took place at the NATO summit in Ankara on July 8. The key topics of the talks were strengthening Ukraine's air defenses and licensing the production of Patriot systems.
